About Folk Storybook Family Portrait

Folk Storybook shows your family like characters in an illustrated folk tale. Figures are slightly blocky and simplified, shaded with fine textured hatching, and colored in warm, friendly tones against a flat, saturated teal ground. There is little scenery, just the family and the color field around them, so the group reads clearly from across a room.

It is made with AI from photos of each person and pet, and pets fit naturally into its storybook world. It is more illustrated and playful than Gouache Storybook, with firmer lines and bolder color, and warmer than the chalky pastels of Pastel Folk. It works well for big families with lots of children, and suits a family room, a child's bedroom or a Christmas gift.

How it works

  1. Choose your styles

Pick the looks you want to see.

  2. Add your people

A card for each person or pet, with one to three clear photos of their face.

  3. See your portraits

They appear on this page within a couple of minutes; choose the size, paper or canvas, and frame.

  4. Only pay if you fall for one

No deposit, no obligation — if none of the designs feels right, you owe nothing.

  5. We print and ship

We start printing as soon as you order. Making it takes 2–5 business days, then it ships from the print partner nearest you.

Questions, answered

Do I pay anything before I see my piece?

No. Seeing your piece is free and needs no card. You only pay if you order a print.

How is my piece made?

With AI. Image models create new artwork from your photos and details, guided by styles our team designs and tests. No one reviews it before you do, so what you see on the page is what we print.

How long does it take?

Your first piece usually appears on this page in a minute or two, and the other print shapes and sizes follow a few minutes later. Add your email if you want them saved to an account.

What if it isn't quite right?

Change the style, a photo or the wording and try again — it's free. Nothing is printed until you order.

What happens to my photos?

We use them only to create your pieces. They stay private to you and are sent to Google's Gemini image service to generate the artwork. Photos you add but never submit are deleted after 7 days.

What sizes and formats can I order?

Your piece is prepared in the print shapes it suits, so you can pick what fits your wall. We offer a wide range of portrait, landscape and square formats from 6×6″ to 40×60″ — framed paper prints, canvas or framed canvas, or metal prints.

How long does printing take?

Printing takes 2–5 business days once you order, then your print ships from the print partner nearest you.

What color is the background of a Folk Storybook portrait?

Usually a flat, saturated teal that makes warm skin tones and clothing stand out, with little or no scenery. The exact shade can vary from one portrait to the next. It pairs well with wood, mustard and terracotta accents, and it keeps a large family readable from across the room.

Do pets suit the Folk Storybook style?

Very well. Dogs and cats are shown with the same warm hatching and simplified shapes as the people, so they look like part of the story rather than pasted in. Add a card with a few clear photos of each pet; they are usually placed at someone's feet or in their arms.

Do the photos need to be taken together?

No — that is the point. Each person comes from their own photos and we compose them into one scene. Different years, places and lighting all work.

How many people can be in the portrait?

Up to the card limit on the form — enough for a large family including pets. The form shows how many people and pets fit in one portrait.

Can I include someone who has passed away?

Yes, from older photos — many families make one for exactly this reason. A clear view of the face is what matters, not the age of the photo.

Will the faces actually look like us?

The style sets the medium; the likeness comes from your photos. If someone is not quite right, add a clearer photo of them and try again — it's free, and nothing is printed until you order.

What occasions is a custom family portrait for?

The moments a family changes shape: a new baby, a wedding, an anniversary, grandparents far away — or simply finally getting everyone, dog included, into one frame.

How much does it cost?

Seeing your piece is free — you only pay if you order a print. The exact price of each size and finish is shown on this page once your piece is made.
