About Gilded Obsidian Family Portrait

Gilded Obsidian renders your family as a woodblock-style engraving in gold and bronze tones on a deep black ground. Fine radiating lines model faces and clothes, and the darkness around the group is filled with swirling, starry linework and small points of light, like a night sky in ink. The gold is printed as flat color, not foil.

It is made with AI from photos of each generation. It is the most dramatic of the multi-generation styles; Nocturnal Linocut shares the dark ground but uses soft folk tints instead of gold engraving. What happens to my photos?

We use them only to create your pieces. They stay private to you and are sent to Google's Gemini image service to generate the artwork. Photos you add but never submit are deleted after 7 days.

What sizes and formats can I order?

Your piece is prepared in the print shapes it suits, so you can pick what fits your wall. We offer a wide range of portrait, landscape and square formats from 6×6″ to 40×60″ — framed paper prints, canvas or framed canvas, or metal prints.

How long does printing take?

Printing takes 2–5 business days once you order, then your print ships from the print partner nearest you.

Is the gold on a Gilded Obsidian portrait metallic?

No. The gold and bronze tones are printed as flat color on the format you choose; there is no foil or gold leaf. Against the black ground the warm tones still read as gold, especially under warm evening light. It is a print that recreates the look of a gilded engraving.

Does a black background suit a family portrait?
