Questions, answered
Will the clothes keep their colors in an Earth-Tone portrait?
Mostly. Clothes keep their own color family, but they are softened toward the sienna, ochre and brown palette, so a bright blue top may turn a muted slate and a white shirt a warm cream. Skin tones and hair colors are kept as they are. If one detail matters, mention it in the notes when you order.
Can I order an Earth-Tone portrait of just one person or a couple?
Yes. Add one card for each person you want in the picture, with a few clear photos each. A single portrait, a couple and a family of up to eight all work, and dogs or cats can be added as their own card. Everyone shares the same loose ochre brush field on cream paper.
How is my piece made?
With AI. Image models create new artwork from your photos and details, guided by styles our team designs and tests. No one reviews it before you do, so what you see on the page is what we print.
What happens to my photos?
We use them only to create your pieces. They stay private to you and are sent to Google's Gemini image service to generate the artwork. Photos you add but never submit are deleted after 7 days.
Do the photos need to be taken together?
No — that is the point. Each person comes from their own photos and we compose them into one scene. Different years, places and lighting all work.
How many people can be in the portrait?
Up to the card limit on the form — enough for a large family including pets. The form shows how many people and pets fit in one portrait.
Can our dog be in the family portrait?
Yes. Add your dog — or your cat — as a card of its own, with one to three clear photos of its face, and it appears in the portrait beside everyone else, in the same style. A pet takes a card just like a person, so it counts toward the same limit.
More questions (10)
Can I include someone who has passed away?
Yes, from older photos — many families make one for exactly this reason. A clear view of the face is what matters, not the age of the photo.
Will the faces actually look like us?
The style sets the medium; the likeness comes from your photos. If someone is not quite right, add a clearer photo of them and try again — it's free, and nothing is printed until you order.
What occasions is a custom family portrait for?
The moments a family changes shape: a new baby, a wedding, an anniversary, grandparents far away — or simply finally getting everyone, dog included, into one frame.
Do I pay anything before I see my piece?
No. Seeing your piece is free and needs no card. You only pay if you order a print.
How long does it take?
Your first piece usually appears on this page in a minute or two, and the other print shapes and sizes follow a few minutes later. Add your email if you want them saved to an account.
What if it isn't quite right?
Change the style, a photo or the wording and try again — it's free. Nothing is printed until you order.
What if my print arrives damaged or misprinted?
Tell us within 14 days of delivery, with your order number and a photo, and we'll reprint it or refund you, whichever you prefer. You don't need to send it back. You approve the exact design before you order, so a print that doesn't match it counts as a misprint. Because each piece is made to order, we can't take it back if you change your mind.
What sizes and formats can I order?
Your piece is prepared in the print shapes it suits, so you can pick what fits your wall. We offer a wide range of portrait, landscape and square formats from 6×6″ to 40×60″ — framed paper prints, canvas or framed canvas, or metal prints.
How long does printing take?
Printing takes 2–5 business days once you order, then your print ships from the print partner nearest you.
How much does it cost?
Seeing your piece is free — you only pay if you order a print. Prints start at CA$91.00, and the exact price of each size and finish is shown on this page.
About Earth-Tone Painted Family Portrait
This page makes an earth-tone painted family portrait from your photos: a raw, expressive painting in burnt sienna, raw ochre, umber and near-black ink, laid in broad dry brushstrokes with drips and bare cream paper showing through. Faces are flat shapes in each person's own skin color with a few bold dark marks, and hair keeps its own color.
It works for one person, a couple or a whole family, pets included. The portrait is made with AI from a few photos of each person, then printed to order as a poster, canvas or metal print. Its warm, earthy palette suits wood, linen and plants, in a living room, a study or a cabin.
